It is possible to copy over the questions from a previous PeerWise course into your new PeerWise course.
PeerWise recommend not copying over all the previous questions, but maybe the ‘highest rated’ (by students) questions to try and take the best and avoid the PeerWise database getting too bloated.
Note: Only 100 questions can be copied over at one time, and it is safest to only enter 100 question IDs at a time. After you have been imported some questions, you can click the ‘Import additional questions’ link to copy over more, but best to consider whether you really want to import them all.
- From the PeerWise homepage, find the row for last year’s course.
- Click the Administration link at the end of the row.
- In the ‘Questions’ column, click Export all questions.
- Fill in the table:
- Number of questions to export: 100
- Display questions in order: Highest rated questions
- Choose format for questions: Display only question ID and timestamp
- Additional data to include: Only the question author’s content
- Click Export questions.
- Copy the ‘ID Date’ list from the web page.
- Convert this list of question IDs and timestamps into a list of just question IDs, one per line.
- Open a new Excel spreadsheet.
- Paste the ‘ID Date’ list into Column A.
- Select all of Column A.
- Select the ‘Data’ tab in the Excel ribbon, and tlick the ‘Text to Columns’ button.
- Select the ‘Delimited’ radio button.
- Click the ‘Next’ button.
- Check only the ‘Other:’ box, and enter the | (pipe) character into its box.
- Click the ‘Next’ button.
- Click the ‘Finish’ button.
- Return to the PeerWise homepage, and find the new course you want to import the questions into
- Click the Administration link.
- In the ‘Questions’ column, click Import questions from course.
- Select the old course you want to import questions from.
- Paste in your list of question IDs you created in Excel (one ID on each line).
- Click Preview questions to import.
- Click the Import these questions button at the bottom of the page.
